Shapeshifter series

“Shapeshifter 1” (graphite)
I designed my first shapeshifter image as a study in form and motion, as well as anatomy. The figure is suspended at the point of violent transformation, yet calm and graceful despite it.

“Shapeshifter 2” (graphite)
The second shapeshifter study of the series emerged from a collection of reference animal studies, playing with texture and surface. I wanted the face of the subject to be hidden from view, allowing the body’s posture to communicate a sense of transformation and of losing control.

“Shapeshifter 3” (graphite)
My third shapeshifter image needed to communicate both the textures of the animal parts, but a real sense of struggle and stress from the changes. Again, the face is hidden so that the posture can express the emotion, and the shifter becomes more of a reflection of the viewer than the subject.
